self employed or stick with the job??

i can't decide whether i should leave the salon i currently work for, borrow the money and go it alone. i like where i work though but it would be good to set up long term it's just that i have a little girl so security is good

w/ a daughter, i'd stick w/ your current job..the economy is bad, so starting a business is extremely risky..and maybe in the future things will get better and you can start s/t new, but for now, stick w/ what you got, especially since you don't hate it!

My mom was a beautician when I was young and she set up a shop area in the basement of our home. She didn't do much business wise because we lived in a small town and out in the country, but she had neighbor ladies that came to get their hair done, etc. One chair, a shampoo bowl, mirror and a few other accessories and you could do this too, if it would work for your life/area etc. Maybe start out doing a bit on the side at home and then eventually build enough $ to get something set up like that.

It's a rough economy to branch out right now. Plus, previous poster brings up a good point about no time for you daughter when you go out on your own. Keep working for the salon for now - AND #1, start saving up money, #2 spend valuable time with your daughter and #3 build up your clientele for when you do leave! Good luck!

The borrower is slave to the lender. It would be better for you to save up for your own shop. Then, when your little girl is older, you will be able to buy the shop and will have more time to dedicate to running it.

Save, save, save and have some time to spend with your little girl. She needs you. If you start your own business, it will become the focus of your life instead of her. You have the rest of your life to open your own salon. Pray about it!
