I just moved into my college dorm a week ago. I'm not really outgoing and don't have many friends yet. I have a whiteboard outside my door and I came back to my dorm the word "bitch" was written. I think the guys from down the hall wrote it. I feel horrible.

What a bunch of idiots! You need to make some friends and do not deal with these nasty boys. And if you see them in the hall say something really cutting to them like "Nice handwriting" or "Real creative".

First, you are not hated. Not by a long shot. The fact is that people that are hated tend to be ignored. These are just stupid college boys who are trying to impress each other. Do not go to the RA -- that will send the wrong message. Put back on the board a cute message that will put them in their place.

I would just ignore it and try not to make too much of a big deal about it. Just relax and try to make one or two close friends. I know this is not a great way to start the semester, but it will pass. JD

You're in college, not in Jr. High so you have to handle your situation as an adult. Go to the guys who you think are responsible. In a non-emotionally charged way, ask them if they know anything about it. Tell them that you're not mad, you are just trying to find out why someone dislikes you so much. Be adult about this. Even if they don't admit anything, let them know that you would like to know why anyone would think that so that you can try to improve your personality for better relationships with your dorm mates. Again, be calm, don't accuse, and be adult. Trowing a tantrum will not help you. VOE

Just ignore it and don't let it get you down, they are only being idiots. You've only been there a week give it some time, be friendly and you'll start to make friends in no time and this whiteboard thing will be irrelevant

try going outside your comfort zone a little. confront them, but in a casual way, and maybe you could end up friends.
