I have a good friend named Kathy who lives on my block. At a party I became friends with her friend Lidia, who livesan hour away. We chat on FB mostly, but consider each other friends. Kathy & Lidia had a falling out and no longer speak. I get the feeling Kathy wants me to break it off with Lidia.

I agree that you should be able to be friends with anyone that you want! No matter what happens between the other two friends, you live in a free world and do want you want to do!!

You have a right to be friends with anyone you want. I would not flaunt it in the first friends face, but continue your friendship with the new friend as well.
