College roommate drama

I got accepted to college for this fall and so did my best friend. We've been best friends for about 3 1/2 years and I really love here. But here is the thing >>>> I do not want to be her roommate. I want to expand my world and meet new people and I dont think that will happen if I room with Alexis.

Living with her does not mean that you will not make other friends....that part is up to you! Room with her and join some clubs, etc to make new friends. David

If she is your best friend then you should be able to tell her the truth about this. Tell her that this does not mean that you won't be friends in college, it just means that you are both going to meet new people.

Your room mate is one with whom you share sleeping quarters and, perhaps, study time. She doesn't have to be your whole life. You will make lots of friends in your dorm and will find that you spend little time in your room and even little time with your room mate. Having a compatible room mate is important so maybe it's good to room with someone that you already know. Your social world will naturally expand regardless of who you room with so don't make this such a big deal. VOE
