I'd confront him on why he's sending the mixed messages, there must be a reason that he's doing that. I think you need to ask yourself why you keep going back to someone that keeps making you upset

Is he a friend or a boyfriend? How bad was the lie? If he is causing you so much stress, why do you want to continue any kind of relationship? To me he seems a little like a con artist. It sounds like he doesn't really respect you if he's lied and if he does things that makes you upset, unless you are super sensitive. You should only accept his apology if you sense that he really means it and if he assures you that it won't happen again. Otherwise his apology is meaningless. I know you want things to be all right but you need to listen to your head, not your emotions. If you stick with him, be cautious. VOE
